In carrying out their mission and in full respect of the Constitution and of the law safeguarding citizens' rights, AISE and AISI agents may now use some enhanced operational tools designed to acquire information.

AISE and AISI staff may now:

• use cover documents
• exercise simulated economic activities
• intercept communications so as to prevent terrorist, subversive or mafia-type activities (a specific authorization procedure is required)

In order to provide intelligence with the widest range of data and information, the law envisages the possibililty for DIS, AISE and AISI staff to have access to the computerized archives of public administrations and public utility companies.
