The activities of the Security Intelligence System are subject to a number of checks by oversight bodies in order to ensure that everything occurs in compliance with the Constitution and the law, in the defence and exclusive interests of the Republic and its institutions.

Parliamentary oversight of the System's actitivies is carried out by Parliament through the Comitato parlamentare per la sicurezza della Repubblica (COPASIR) [Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic].

Legality auditing of the System's records is carried out by the Court of Auditors and the Budget and Accounting Office at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers through their branch offices operating within the DIS.

Administrative auditing of the System's records is carried out by the Inspection Office and the internal audit body of the DIS.
