The effectiveness of prevention actitivies depends heaviliy on the cooperation between intelligence organizations (DIS, AISE and AISI) and the armed forces, the police forces, the public administrations, public utility companies, as well as foreign intelligence counterparts.
Law no. 124/2007 has significantly strengthened institutional cooperation. In particular, it provided for that:
- the armed and police forces, State administrations, and private and public research institutions provide information, analyses and reports to the DIS that, for this purpose, promotes and ensures the exchange of information, also by way of periodic meetings
- the armed and police forces, the officers and the agents working in the Judical Police and law enforcement provide the fullest cooperation to the AISE and AISI staff
- at the request of the DIS, the police forces transmit information about investigations, after prior authorization from Judicial authorities if such information is covered by secrecy protection. Judicial authorities may also transmit the records and information relevant for the Security Intelligence System's activities on their own initiative
Steady relations have also been envisaged with the CASA - Comitato di analisi strategica antiterrorismo Committee for anti-terrorist strategic analysis, set up at the Ministry of the Interior, as well as between the AISE and the RIS - Reparto informazioni e sicurezza Intelligence and Security Division of the Defence General Staff]. Ad hoc regulations govern such relations.
Generally, all State administrations and public utility companies ensure the access of the DIS, the AISE and the AISI to their computerized archives.
